MADISON, S.D. – Briar Cliff put 42 points on the board before Dakota State was able to respond in front of its home crowd and the Chargers made it look easy in a 49-20 road victory on Thursday night.
Brad Cagle tossed two touchdown passes and ran in a third, leading his team to its first victory over a ranked opponent since 2014.
Cagle went 14-for-24 through the air for 284 yards and the two scores.
BCU (2-0) kept its offense on the field through the evening and racked up 508 yards of total offense.
The defense did its part as well, highlighted by Markel Roby’s interception returned 25 yards for a touchdown.
The Chargers next take to the field hosting Hastings on Sept. 15.
