SIOUX CITY – Rising senior Mari Pizzini, a student-athlete on Morningside College’s women’s bowling roster, was recently awarded the International Bowling Media Association’s Chuck Pezzano Scholarship.
The Bellview, Neb., native outdistanced the remainder of the individuals competing for the scholarship by 50 percent, according to the IBMA’s web site. Fifty-three applications were received and dropped down to six finalists.
Pizzini’s application was centered around a first-person story she penned about meeting Professional Women’s Bowling Association competitor Kaleena Henning-Shannon, a personal role model, and watching other professionals during a PWBA Tour stop.
“(Getting this scholarship) made me absolutely speechless,” Pizzini said. “It’s such an amazing honor. I’ll admit it was hard to keep it a secret for the few weeks before it was announced.”
