MOUNT PLEASANT – The Iowa Wesleyan men’s golf team opened the 2018 season over the weekend when they competed in the Iowa City Shootout hosted by Wartburg College. Four teams competed in the two day event, and the Tigers ended each day at the top of the leaderboard. IW turned in a team score of 615, 29 strokes lower than Wartburg College, to take the top spot in the Shootout.
At the end of the first round, Iowa Wesleyan had the top three places in individual scoring. Blake Forsythe, Jaime Suarez, and Jeff Cox finished with scores of 73, 75, and 78 respectively to help the Tigers finish first at the end of day one.
Suarez came out in day two and dominated the field, turing in the only score below 70 and jumping into first place for his first win as a Tiger. Suarez finished with a 69 in day two and had a final score of 144, two strokes above par. Blake Forsythe ended with a final score of 150 after shooting a 77 in day two. He took second place in the individual scoring.
Jeff Cox was the final Tiger in the top five of the individual scoring. His second round score of 81 gave him a final score of 159 which put him in a tie for fifth place.
Iowa Wesleyan will return to action on Sept. 17 when they travel to Peoria, Illinois to compete in the Eureka Invitational.
