MOUNT PLEASANT – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the names of the SLIAC All-Decade Softball team members. These individuals, who played in the SLIAC between 2010-19, were chosen using a system that awarded points based on All-Conference selections. Any player who received a Player of the Year award during a season also earned a selection.
Morgan Christner (SR/New London, IA) joined the Tigers in 2018 after transferring from Illinois State University. 2021 will be Christner’s third season with IW. During her first season, Christner was named the SLIAC Pitcher of the Year, was named to the SLIAC First-Team All-Conference team, was named the SLIAC Pitcher of the Week, and also made the SLIAC All-Academic team. In 2019, Christner led the SLIAC in wins (9) and total strikeouts (93). She was second in the SLIAC in complete games (10) and strikeouts per game (9.39).
Although Christner’s 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was on track to lead the SLIAC in both total strikeouts, racking up 57 in just 32.2 innings, and strikeouts per game (12.21). Christner also earned the title of SLIAC Pitcher of the Week when she threw seven scoreless innings against Medaille, holding them to just three hits and two walks while striking down 12.
Christner has also added her name to the Iowa Wesleyan Softball records list in several categories. She is at the top of the list for individual season strikeouts per game, averaging 9.95 per game in 2019. She is second in most strikeouts per season after recording 199 strikeouts in 2019. Christner is also 1st on the career list for strikeouts per game, averaging 10.24, 2nd in career shutouts with 8, and 7th in career strikeouts, with 256.
