It’s game week and it feels great!
There were times over the last five months where, if you were like me, you wondered if we would get to this point. Well, here we are.
Our athletes began arriving on campus a little over two weeks ago. Preseason has taken on a different look and our coaches and student-athletes continue to adapt.
We have laid out our plans for spectators for September 5 and those plans can be found at dordt.edu/updates. Check back often as we will be posting updates and expectations on that page until we settle into a routine. President Hoekstra also issued this update on Monday, August 31 and I think you will find it informative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQiKHT2aybc&feature=youtu.be .
We get one opportunity to start this year well and that is going to mean limited spectators in the DeWitt Gym for volleyball while the cross country meets will have few limitations. I am hopeful, if done well, we can generate momentum this weekend and continue building and moving forward to allow more spectators to watch in person as the season progresses.
What we expect:
We cannot remove all risks, but we are attempting to mitigate those risks to get the 2020-21 school year off to a strong start.
“I’d give almost anything to have a chance to play,” was a comment we heard many times this spring during March and April. Well, now is the time to give almost anything. We are showing restraint while pushing forward and I hope we can count on your support as this season begins. We are hopeful our patience and restraint results in further opportunities to have more spectators as the semester progresses.
Looking forward to a great year,
Director of Athletics, Dordt University
