FOREST CITY – Waldorf senior Kyra Platzek led the way with a big offensive performance that powered the Warriors volleyball team to a trio of season-opening wins last week.
That performance also earned Waldorf’s star outside hitter North Star Athletic Association Attacker of the Week honors in volleyball, which the league announced Monday.
The 5-foot-10 senior from Ridgeland, Wis., pounded down 52 kills as the Warriors swept Silver Lake on the road to open the season, then beat host Roosevelt in four sets and battled back to top Lincoln in five sets in a tournament Saturday at Roosevelt University.
Starting off with a team-high eight kills in a balanced win on Wednesday, Platzek then put away 18 kills against Roosevelt, and added a huge performance of 26 kills in the comeback win to complete the week-long sweep.
Platzek added three digs against Silver Lake, had three digs and five blocks against Roosevelt, and three aces, four digs, and four blocks against Lincoln, as well.
Waldorf (3-0 overall) now heads to Concordia-Nebraska for a tournament on Friday and Saturday where the Warriors play Bethany and Concordia on Friday, then Benedictine and Briar Cliff on Saturday.
