NEW ORLEANS, La. – For a second consecutive week, the Wartburg men’s and women’s track & field team were both ranked first in the latest release of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2021 Division III Indoor Track & Field national rankings, announced Tuesday, Feb. 2.
On the men’s side, the Knights received 282.93 points. American Rivers Conference and Central Region rivals Loras (2), Nebraska Wesleyan (4), and Dubuque (5) also headline the Top-25 poll.
The women garnered 308.01 points to sit atop the Top-25, leading runner-up John Carroll by eight points. Loras, NWU, and Dubuque also are ranked inside the top-6 on the women’s side.
The men continue to headline the National Rating Index with their 14 national top-10 marks. Athletes have starred across the board for Wartburg so far in 2021, as it has seen multiple top-10 performances in the mile (x3), 3000 (x5), 5000 (x2) and the 60H (x2). Seniors Joe Freiburger and Dallas Wright continue to top the chart in the 5000 and 60H, respectively.
Breya Christopher leads the nation in the high jump from at 1.69m (5-6½) and is one of 18 national top-10 marks for the Wartburg women. The Knights have multiple athletes ranked in the top-10 of the 400 (x2), 800 (x2), 3000 (x2), 5000 (x5) and triple jump (x2).
Wartburg returns to action this Saturday, Feb. 6, hosting Central College and Coe College during its ‘Indoor Select’ A-R-C Triangular, beginning at 11 a.m. inside Hoover Fieldhouse.
